Comments: Hello Ron We are emailing you all from the county of Norfolk in the United Kingdom. As you may know, Norfolk was one of the counties in the UK that had many USAF airforcemen based here. As you are having your reunion we thought we would let you know about our new company we are currently researching and want to launch in 2010. We are currently researching our new company called Somewhere in England - which will offer unique holiday tours for war veterans and their families and a wonderful trip down memory lane to visit Norfolk (UK) and its USAF bases. The proposed name comes from the code name given by General Patton of Britain for the invasion of the UK. Are any of these Airbases familar? ‘Shipdham, Atttlebridge, North Pickenham, Ketteringham Hall (HQ), Seething, Horsham Saint Faith. Thorpe Abbotts?’ You can perhaps tick off the ones that have family associations for you. During World War 11, the 2nd Air Division, US 8th Air Force, was based in Norfolk and Suffolk. Over 6,700 airmen lost their lives in the course of duty. The company proposes to offer the survivors of the 2nd Air Division, and particularly their families, organised holidays to Norfolk, to understand more about the special relationship which existed between those Americans, and people in East Anglia. Background I manage a Public Relations Company. My colleague (also a Kate) and I are two professional Norfolk girls, knowledgeable about the area, enthusiastic about our heritage, and keen to share some of its secrets. The groups will number between 16 and 30 and we propose three trips a year, starting in April 2009 but also in April, July and October. We will offer accommodation in an excellent Holiday Inn, overlooking Norwich’s 2nd Division Football club, with discounted rates, and comfortable transport. Bespoke Trips We will arrange bespoke trips to Norfolk air bases with USAF connections, such as Shipdham, Rackheath and North Pickenham, and air collections like Duxford. At each location, we want to entertain you with wartime stories from local people. Spectacularly, the offer will also include private visits to the stately homes of Holkham Hall and Houghton Hall, where staff are on ready to recount how these grand houses and their estates went through the war. Trips to visit Norwich’s medieval city is an option, as are train travel and plans to see Cambridge or London. We are currently in our research stage and would like to ask you some questions in order for us to tailor make our holiday packages to your requirements. QUESTIONS. I would very much like to have this page linked to the new 100th Bomb Group Web site currently being built. Also, I would really like to see if you have a list of Missions for your Dad and his Crew? We need it for our database. Can you send me a scan (WINZIP if possible) of his crew along with a detailed listing of who is in the photo. On one of your pages you mention that Sassy Lassy would not have had Squadron ID markings on her and you did this for the model. I can tell you that she definately would have had those Squadron Markings and ID markings on both sides of the Aircraft during her time at Thorpe Abbotts. I will look in my files to see if there are any photos of this A/C. You have created a wonderful site in memory of your Dad but also to all the crews who failed to return trying to preserve our freedom.
