It was a real memorable experience as it was my first cruise in my life and we had a great time. I remember many things about my cruise , especially the nice crew and beautiful decor. The Greeks sure know how to run an ocean liner! There was a nice lady at the Children's Playroom who was very nice to me. I have some old photos somewhere and will post them in the future. Your website brought back many nice memories. Thank you! Your comments please!: Greetings fellow traveller. I thank you for the memories that just flooded my conciousness. I was in the Entertainment Staff on the Amerikanis, in 1969, - just after the aqucision of the ship. I remember working with Mike Reed, who later became a regular on the Eastenders. Great ship, - great time. I was on the Queen Frederica first on her South Pacific / Australia / Asia seasons, and after the Amerikanis, went onto several other Cruise Lines, before spening about twenty years as a Tour Manager for Five star tour operators, Olson Travelworld, Hemphill Harris and Lindblad. Although i have travelled through well over 120 countries, I never get tired of it. Had some harrowing adventures on the Amerikanis, some that can be shared, - and some that cannot...... Thanks for the outlet Regards S.J. We were from Belfast, my parents decided to leave to escape the Troubles. So many fond memories of the ship and all the fun we had- it was full of kids. I remember lining up on deck with the other kids when the kitchen used to throw all the old biscuits overboard- they used to throw them away after a couple of days. The porter would load you up with an assortment and then we'd go sit down somewhere and eat ourselves sick! I remember the flying fish, the phospherous glow from the propellers when you stood on the rear deck at night, the crossing of the line ceremony. Las Palmas,Cape Town - the people onshore waving, us throwing streamers. Oh - and the Greeks- those guys were into anything with a skirt- even I could see that then. The Captain took a fancy to my mother and she literally had to put my baby sisters cot against the door at night. Luckily we had a lovely old greek porter who watched out for my mum and we heard him shouting at the captain late one night after he had come to see what the captain was doing knocking on our cabin door so late. Whenever I smell carnation milk I think of him- he used to put a jug of it with ice in a steel ring on the wall outside the cabin so we had milk for our breakfast cereal. Every sunday after the church service in the cinema there would be a screening of Sinbad.. just used to watch the same movie every week!Still love that film. We were held out from Melbourne for a day or two longer due to rough weather, then when we docked I remember standing at the top of the gangway and my mother telling me to come along but I refused stating that 'We live here now!' As far as I was concerned it was the best place to live so we should stay. I had a dream a few days later that the ship was delayed and we got back on it. I was able to read very well even as a small boy and looked through the newspaper and there it was- the Britanis was delayed due to some repairs needed. I showed my mother and said we should get back on.. to no avail. I've often thought about that journey and the Britanis. It is still probably one of the happiest times of my life. I'm so pleased to see her again- such a beautiful ship with such a long and admirable career. She brought happiness to thousands of people.I'm glad she was'nt cut up for scrap and is now peacefully at rest under the sea that she used to sail upon. 8 Sun June 07 2009 - 06:37:52 Fullname: Lyn Barrett nee Meade Email: bbarrett@tpg.com.au Where are you from?: Queensland Australia Homepage Name: Homepage URL: http:// Reference: Just Surfed On It!
