My 100 plus car train loaded with 10,000 tons of coal broke in two. Close to the half way mark of the tunnel - which is six miles long. The train had a total of nine locomotives on it, including my two locomotives on the rear of the train. The train dispatcher unknowningly turned on the fans - blowing the smoke back on top of me. I was outside of the locomotive a total of three times trouble shooting the potential cause's of the break in two. The train was stranded in the tunnel for a little over an hour with all nine diesel locomotives running and fans blowing it back on top of me. Because of the high altitude of the tunnel and the many toxic substances found in the diesel smoke, I suffered an anoxic related TBI, combined with severe PTSD, and subsequent MCS. I am currently on the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Association of Colorado, and an Associate Member of the State Advisory Board for TBI. I have ironically been asked to be part of The Moffat Tunnel Safety Committee. The Music is really great. A lot of what you say about TBI is true. Nobody understands unless they walk the same road, wear the same T Shirt as they say here in Ireland. I, just like you appear to be normal, but I am not inside. I had a Brain Haemorrhage and ended up having the one that bled clipped, and five more weak berry aneurysms clipped. It's now 8 years. I don't feel the same and resent people who will not accept me for the way I am now. Not even my husband or my 3 children understand. I have a young daughter who understands me, she was only 3 when it happened to me. All my children love me, I truly know this but coping with this injury is hard. The Doctors tell me to put the past behind me and get on with my life. You know this is a very hard thing to do.
