Comments: Philly gets Villie Leino from the Wings....

Salary dump move by the Wings to make money room for when Franzen gets back. Wings will probably dump another guy to make room for Lilja. (Lebda &/or Meech are top candidates)

This year was Lenio's chance to shine, especially with all the injuries the Wings suffered. Just didn't manage to pull it of. He's got the tools though, maybe a trade is just what he needs. A fresh start and a different attitude. Hopefully it works out for the Flyers.

Where Ya Posting From?: An open letter to the city of Montreal
Comments: I would like to make an ugent plea to city of Montreal and the Montreal Canadiens hockey club. The Boston Ruins play the Habs today at 3:00. If Boston loses, it will be 11 straight loses and tie a franchise record. In the spirit of brotherhood, forgiveness and pity, I would hereby like to beg for mercy. Montreal-Please let the Boston Ruins win the game this time. lt would be an easy thing to do. Boston plays good D and games are usually close. I've talked to Zdeno Chara. He's agreed to let go a long wrist shot from center ice late in the third period. Just have the goalie let the long shot in. It would be a great humanitarin gesture and increase brotherhood between Canada and the US. You guys can do it.
Thank you from the city of Boston.

Comments: Anybody want to buy a Basketball Franchise? Pistons are for sale, which may include the Palace and/or the Tampa Bay Lightning. If the current Lightning owners opt out of the team, then the ownership goes back to the Davidson Estate. How's about that for a turn of events.

(Also minor rumor: Pistons sold and moved to Pittsburgh) Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mav's doesn't think a Basketball team in Pitt can compete with the Penguins NHL franchines. Any thoughts on that Pitt folks?

Comments: Parch: The "special" Leaf fans will always think they got the best player in every deal, but this deal seems to be a good one for both teams. Toronto gets a young defenseman who could be an allstar again if he gets his head on straight. Calgary gets some secondary scoring, free up cap space and gets rid of player who according to different reports was a cancer in the dressing room and underachieving the last couple of years.

On the good news front, USA goalie Ryan Miller has a new spiffy mask for the Olympics. Check it out:

Comments: I wouldn't use the word "giddy". OK, maybe the retard Leaf fans, but from what I've read there's a lot of pissed off fans that think Phaneuf is overrated and they gave up too much. I don't think it's a horrible deal for the Leafs. Phaneuf is an impact defencemen and they do get a lot younger. I don't think Burke is done. I can see them now moving Kaberle to get some offence. They need to give Kessel something to work with. As of right now it's not a great deal if they don't do something about their offence.

From Calgary's point of view it's a good deal short term. White is a decent replacement for Phaneuf and they get a much needed offensive boost. With Phaneuf having problems with the coach this shouldn't be a surprise, and I think it's a deal that now gets the Flames in the playoffs. Now with these new forwards the Flames move Jokinen. That's a turkey that definately didn't work out for them. In the long term the Flames really win if they can sign these new aquisitions, like Stajan.

It's not a bad deal for both teams under the circumstances. Rarely do we see a blockbuster trade like this nowadays. I have to give the 2 teams credit for having the balls to do something about their bad situations. I'd like to see the Oilers show the guts to go for a major shake up.

Comments: Phaneuf going to Toronto is a good deal for the Leafs. It also gets him out of the West, which is nice. He alway's seems to pound the Wings. Nice gutsy move by getting Giguere also. He's a big name that has success in the past. I bet Leafs fans are giddy now.

Comments: Just as I say there isn't going to be any trades the Leafs pull a blockbuster. Giguere is definately better than Toskala, but did they really need him? Phaneuf leaving the NW doesn't break my heart. Calgary needed some offensive help so they got that, but game up a damn fine defenceman. Leafs were complaining that Kessel wasn't getting any support, and now he's got none. Hard to determine a winner here. I suppose it depends on contracts and the ability to resign some of these guys. Definately a blockbuster though.

Comments: Interesting finish to the Van/Tor game. I'm not sure I've ever seen a player interact with fans like Raycroft did. He was skating around and reacting to the kudos and jabs. It was a very satisfying win for him in front of his old team, and a very nice comeback by the Canucks.

I've taken my shots at the Sedin sisters before but I gotta admit they're looking incredible right now. They seem to be able to do whatever they want out there. They've always had an impressive cycle game but now they've added a lethal transition game. Their puck control is driving defencemen nuts. Add some impressive dangling and a winger that works well with them and that line looks unstoppable. Very impressive.

Parch: I'm surprised Quinn still has his hair, one of my buddies' at work, who's an Oiler's fan, came up with a slogan -- Fall for Hall. Everytime the Oilers lose, he comes into work with a smile because he wants to get the 1st overall pick. Hall or Seguin will be great picks either way. I read somewhere that the bottom 3 teams in the league are coached by current or former Leaf coaches: Quinn in Edmonton, Maurice in Carolina and Wilson in Toronto.

Comments: At one point they were considering having some games inside BC Place which is the domed football stadium. 55 thousand fans for hockey games would have been awesome, but they're going to use the place for the opening and closing ceremonies so I guess it wasn't doable. Canucks home rink and the arena at UBC get hockey. Gold medal game tickets are going for $30K+. The old home of the Canucks (Pacific Coliseum) get figure skating.

I love the olympics. I've got a buddy in Abbotsford so I almost planned an olympic trip, but getting tickets is extremely difficult. It was all lottery, and now the scalper prices are just ridiculous. Crappy events aren't too bad if you want to stand outside and watch luge, but anything good is out of my league so I passed. I'll watch on TV. Can you believe that every second of every event will be available to watch online? Times have changed.

Comments: Want to see a team that consistently loses third period leads, more often than not snatching defeat from the jaws of victory? The St. Louis Blues are the team for you. It's one of the things that helped get Andy Murray fired. Too many of those games have come at home so that makes it even worse. The fact that the Blues are still in contention for a playoff spot at this point in time says more about how mediocre the teams in front of them are than how good the Blues are.

2 Olympics questions of interest for me.
1)Is GM Place going to be home to the hockey games played or is it going to be the figure skating venue? Traditionally figure skating gets the bigger venue for these types of games but we are talking about Canada after all.
2)If the Canadian team gets off to a slow start again this Olympics will they blame the American media again? It takes all the responsibility off their shoulders and has been proven to work.

The Wizard believes it would be a great idea for the Olympics to take a page from the NHL and play the Gold medal game outdoors. There always has to be an outdoor venue that's not being used and it would be the highlight of the games itself.
No need to thank me, I live to give.

Comments: The Oilers are saving money on zamboni gas because they only have to clean half the ice.
It's been a horrible year. They're too small to battle in the northwest and have completely lost all confidence. I've never seen a team blow so many games in the 3rd period and even in the last minute. It's sad. Losing Khabibulin and Hemsky to injury didn't help, but there's a serious lack of effort from almost everybody. We're still waiting for their first win this decade. I've been avoiding the Oiler board because it'll be a furious black hole of negativity that'll suck the life out of me through my eyeballs.

Time to rebuild if possible so anybody is available for trade. Souray or Visnovsky could help somebody, but there's a lot of bad contracts that I think are unmovable. It's all future watch now. Eberle and some swedish kid were the two best players at the World Juniors, and everybody is now aiming for Taylor Hall in the draft. Apparently Tyler Seguin isn't a bad choice at #2 either. Teenagers are now the only thing to look forward to.

Comments: What happened to your beloved Oil? I've always had a soft spot in my heart for your team. Even thought hey kept the Hawks from the Finals a few times in the dynasty years, I always liked their style of play and enjoyed watching games on that great sheet of ice.

But they do not look good, at all. Seems like they have some talented forwards, but none seem to be performing as they have in the past. Their D looks pretty bad though. Delaureries (or whatever) gave up one terrible goal but couldn't be blamed on the last 3, as the Hawks were pretty much allowed to do as they wished in the offensive zone. Is this just one of those years or do you think a major overhaul is necessary?

Comments: NetMinder: Yeah. the old axiom is "Whoever gets the best player wins the deal". But things are different in this case I think. First of all Vinny is not playing at the level he used to. Watched him play the Hawks and at one point my friend had just said "Lecavalier's not hustling back" when the Hawks scored and it was Vinny's man, coming late into the zone, who scored. There's also different goals here I think. The Lightning can patch a few holes with this one move and still save salary. Vinny's going to make 10 mill for the next 6 years and is signed until the 19/20 season! I think Tampa potentially wins this deal, although I admittedly don't know much about the Rangers other than Redden. Dubinsky's a decent young player isn't he?
