I was a pilot with the State of Florida and retired helicopter pilot with the Tampa Police Department. We had some good chats, mostly about flying and just a little race talk. I wish I could have flown with you in your recent helicopter until you got totally familiar with it. I had a lot of time in that type. Rest in peace my friend. He was my favorite driver at the time, along with Dale Sr. I miss him dearly today, as he would have been a great champion many time's over.. He was the best well rounded race car driver in racing history. He loved his fans, family & he always had a smile no matter what happened! One day I would love to see him inducted to the Nascar Hall Of Fame & I think he should be just for the way that he handled himself on & off the track. My dad and I came home from church one Sunday years ago and turned on the tv. While flipping channels we came across a nascar race. I knew nothing about racing but was captivated by it, so we watched the entire race. We had to choose a car to win so my dad said " I'll pull for the #6 car." I said "well I'm pulling for the best looking car, the #28." Little did I know at that time, that I was pulling for the nicest guy in Nascar, Davey Allison. From that day on, my dad and I spent many Sunday afternoons watching Nascar races, and we still do. We attended races at Talladega year after year. When I heard the news of Davey's death, I was shocked to say the least. I literally cried. I continue to this day watching and attending races. I love to hear Larry McReynolds refer back to when he won races with Davey. Davey will never be forgotten. I have model cars of that #28 and I tell my son who is 3 yrs old, all about the car and what an awesome driver Davey was. I only regret that I never got the chance to meet Davey in person. Thanks for the memories and remembering me when we met again at riverside when you were driving cup. I became a Bobby Allison fan for sure. Once Davey got his start I was a fan and I felt (still do) more like family than just a fan. Strange how that is considering I never met any of the Allison family.
