I live in the mountains of central Idaho - western USA - we were given a young chicken and rooster last year, not knowing what they were - and first time to have chickens! This spring the hen started laying beautiful green eggs - so I have been trying to find out more about chickens that lay green eggs! I learned a lot from your site. But my chicken is black with irridecent feathers that shine blue/green in the sun - the rooster has so many colors, I can't say he is one or another. They both have impressive tails. Comments: My Husband and I will be moving home to Scotland in the next couple of years and are presently at planning application stage to rebuild our Croft (destroyed by an arsonist in 2004). We have 6 acres of land and I intend to keep hens a a small scale. I am particularly interested in the indigenous breeds as we are quite high up and the hens we choose will have to be able to withstand the rigours of the West Coast climate.I am also extremely interested in hardy plants and shrubs. Can you recommend a good gardening book - nothing fancy, we both prefer "wildish" gardens?. We will certainly visit you when we are next in Scotland. Delighted to find your site.
