Perhaps some info about innoculations would warrant some attention. I work in an office which is a barn partly renovated. The boss is breeding r.i.reds and some other Mixed chicks for laying and I was a little concerned about avian flu or other diseases as I work so close to them and there are barn cats roaming around here. Comments: we have a croft and Ive just registered the 4 ewes. I want chickens and was attracted to your site because you are intersted in the birds and their genetic ancestry. I would like to purchase a hardy variety or two for these parts. Everyone sems to have chooks here but apart from leghorns and big brown ones Im unfamiliar with the breeds. I really would like advice on caring for them as free range animals. There is a good hen coop on site. Some people clip their wings (!!!??) Others leave them to come and go and escape fox raids by allowing them to fly onto the barns. Am I looking at a big finacial outlay and would 2 breeds live togwether? What about the boys?
