To be honest, I'm not much interested in all those Ave Marias, but thought you might be interested in how one of my conductors created a concert on a single theme: the Stabat Mater. It was many years ago, and I can't remember all four composers now, but it included Palestrina (I'm pretty sure), Poulenc and Penderecki. It was a wonderfully interesting and challenging program to sing and covered a real spectrum of musical eras. We performed the program 4 times in different venues, and all the audiences loved it, too. But I doubt if that chorus -- or any other -- could thrive, let alone survive, on singing only one theme all the time. As a singer, I would NEVER join such a group.
