Second, Poppy asked us to remove her message board several months ago. You can still visit her website.
Here is the final message she left in May
Folks, after a couple of months of reflection, I've decided to ask Horror World to shut down this board when they do their next update. I don't feel that I am currently writing enough horrific/dark fiction to merit a board on a horror site, and I'm at a point in my life where I no longer enjoy taking part in Internet chats, forums, etc. and would prefer not to have the responsibility of checking this one (or the guilt of leaving people with their questions unanswered). I'm not a big fan of farewell statements, which always strike me as distinctly diva-esque, but Nanci asked me to post one and so here it is. I appreciate the contributions of everyone who has posted here, and I hope interested parties will continue to read my blog at www.livejournal.com/users/docbrite . Thanks and see you around.

StevenBeltzer@AOL.com Comments: hey there, I was wondering if there might be a possiblity of creating a message board for Richard Laymon fans on here? It would be great for creating an easier place for fans to discuss his books. I went to the Laymon Kills site and can't seem to get my replys or topics posted because of their silly username/password stuff that never works.
I am a big Laymon fan and think it would definitely add to the pleasures of this website.

scottlapping@mcb.net Comments: I need your help. I used to have a horror book and it went missing. For years now I have been trying to remember the name and author of this book, looking through second hand book shops etc, to no avail. It is about a group of people who get stranded on an oil rig and are attacked, one by one, by a creature that can absorb their bodies and then re-produce them. Please can someone tell me the title and author of this book so I can attempt to buy another copy. It is driving me mad that I can't remember!!! Thanks very much.

president@horror.org Comments: John - You'd have to ask the publishers why the prices are the way they are. The HWA doesn't get involved in how publishers price their products.
For everyone else, sorry I've been absent for a bit. I'll try to be more available in the future.

13 Mon December 08 2003 - 02:42:20 Fullname: Judi Rohrig Email: Comments: Sorry, Scott. I should have left more information. I did see that marketing and sales were being mentioned. Every time I mention in HELLNOTES that sales of horror novels/magazines/etc. are down, I get notes from telling me I have it all wrong. But numbers don't lie. This week Stephen King takes a little look sales with a little different twist.
I don't usually read EW either, but I do take a peek at SK's column because that's why you pay me your subscription money.
Eric, I don't think there will be a glut this time around because few of the majors are publishing their horror titles as horror. I don't think Signet puts horror on Dale Bailey's or Bentley Little's books. I believe Pocket did for Joe's book, but I don't think so for John Passarella's. So I don't think anybody's really developing a "line" right now but the increase in dark titles is measurable. The label is off-putting to the majority of readers (the largest chunk of whom are females aged 35-55) but the same label appeals to the largest movie demographic of late teens to early 20's, few of whom seem to be readers. So it makes good business sense to market a horror movie as a horror movie but market a horror book as something else. But it also gives us lots of really stupid horror movies.
