However, your selection brought back many memories, in particular the photograph of Tinside Pool as I recall swimming there after school during the 1950s. Thanks for an enjoyable few minutes. Comments: My very first car (summer 1982) was a Hillman Avenger Estate 1600 super (4 speed auto)Reg No. TBO 878N in Metallic Torquise I had to buy an auto due to suffering a bad botorcycle accident at 16 and in those days it was pretty much `hobsons choice` and so armed with a bank-loan of £525.00 bought it. I took my test 12 days after my 17th birthday in the car but within 2 months I had destroyed two Borg-Warner 45 Auto-boxes and so via a pal who had a job at a scrap-merchant bought all the necassary bits to convert it to manual-pedal box, gearbox, clutch, flywheel and prop-shaft and then one evening using very cheap and basic tools and equipped with a car-port and cheap wheel ramps, i set about converting the old girl and fired it up for test-drive at about midnight. Once i mastered using a manual box i applied for another driving test and (please read this carefully) passed first time twice! in the same car and unbelieveably with the same examiner!! This could be unique??? I sold the car after six months to Chopper, the scrappie guy for £50.00 who re-MOTd it and promptly wrote it off spectacularly in Pontypridd. I still have very fond memories, as well as many other stories involving the car. Now Lansdowne released a model of it and I want it in the brown metallic colour my car was. Can you help me at a colournumber? Fantastic there is worldwide still so much to find about this car! Comments: I owned an avenger years ago, it was a `P` reg 1600 gls (I think) and of all the cars I`ve owned it`s the one I wish I`d kept. Talk about character, it had a little pump beside the steering column to pump water onto the screen, those cool (I thought) `L` shaped rear lights and if you wanted to adjust the wing mirrors you needed the help of a friend `cos they were half way down the front wings! Stll it was reliable and quick and cheap to insure. Happy daze. I basically went into this site as I have just researched into family history coming from Yealmpton and Holberton in the 1700's and 1800's. I know in the 1841 Census they resided Hern, Yealmpton ... can you put any light on it. With regards, L Lewis (Plymouth). I am a very hardcore fan of the Dodge 1500, and here in Argentina this was a very popular car. I loved the images of the miniatures, because I collect diecast cars models, but ironically I never found a Plymouth Cricket, or a Hillman Avenger, or a Dodge 1500 either...
