Thank you. I couldn't find Coalville in my atlas map of Iowa and really wanted to know where it was. I'm doing genealogical research for someone, and their Civil War era relative, John W. Welch, lived in Coalville according to his Civil War pension file. Only I didn't know where that was. Now I do, thanks to you! His obituary in 1904 said that "after the [Civil]war, he settled in Iowa, and was twice elected assessor of the county in which he lived; at one time he owned the coal banks and town site at Coalville, Iowa." The old clay pit brings back memories of rock hunting and I remember playing softball on the coal slag pile that was situated where the RLDS church is today. When I think about being a kid in Coalville, I think of Iz Jamison, who walked home from the store everyday eating a fudgecicle. I think about Don Peart, who gave me my first motorcycle ride. I think about the Leonard kids and the Patterson boys - all great kids. I remember waking up on Saturday mornings to the sound of Mr. Coats hounds. I think there was an annual foxhunt in Dolliver Park- ask Hazel Fitzner if she remembers. I remember the annual softball game between the Coalville and Evanston 7-8th graders - a big event! And school picnics both on the school grounds and at the Semprini's. I am not sure if it was before the Jordisons or before Don and Tiny Peart. I don't think you have an accurate picture of Toyland Hill.
