Comments: I'm a Veteran of the Canadian Navy. I was watching the History channel on cable TV and the USS Cabot was mentioned in the show. I served 30 years in the Canadian Navy and one of the units I served with was HMCS Cabot. It's a Reserve Unit in St. John's Newfoundland Canada. The unit was put together in 1949. I think! So I went on line to see what USS Cabot looked like and the type of ship it was. Your website is interesting. Thank You for the Naval History. Interesting!

Comments: My grandfather, Raymond Fletcher Cox served as the Chief Petty Officer (I think) on the USS Cabot during WWII. He later served with the American Legion in helping veterans file claims for benefits and provide transportation wherever they needed to go. My grandfather was a photographer while on the ship and I have a photo book of some amazing pictures during the war. My grandfather has been one of my inspirations in how I live my life and helping other people. He was a wonderful man.

Yesterday, my husband was in Danville, VA at the Subway. He saw a tall gentleman at Subway wearing a coat with the USS Cabot stitched into the coat. I asked my husband if he introduced himself, but to no avail, he did not. It would be my honor to simply speak to anyone that served on this ship and possibly remember my grandfather. If you live close by, I would like to share my photo book. I can not scan these pictures because they are glued on to the pages of the book and the pictures are fragile and old. I would take suggestions about preserving this book.

Please email me with information

Sincerely,
Laura Lindsey Cassell

Comments: My father Charles Barton was a cook on this ship. He passed away at a young age of 48, but I remember his stories of his time on this ship and his pride of the time he served this country. I would like to express my graditude to all of the brave men and women who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom. God Bless our veterans! May we never forget them and always honor them.
