Comments: My wife & I sailed on Australis in May 1971 & still have fond memories of the ship . We had an unusual start at Circular Quay in Sydney. What a send off we were having...streamers everywhere, people waving their goodbys, blowing kisses etc. Next thing we hear is an announcement the ship can't leave yet because of a dispute with the Maritime Union. So we stayed all day until evening. Funny to see all those streamers still attached to the ship & no one on the wharf to cheer us off. I have never seen so much garbage tossed off a ship as happened when we cleared the heads. I swear you could have followed the ship's passage across the oceans by the trail of empty drink cans that lined the bottom. Delvene Delaney was aboard. Remember her? Ended up marrying Paul Hogan's manager/friend John (Strop) Cornell. Plenty of memories I could relate. A 5 week voyage we can never forget. I have lots of slides and about 50ft of super 8 film waiting to be converted. What a sad end for the ship.

Comments: Would like to here from a guy that worked on the ship at the sametime as me.I do not remember his name. He worked in the shop as the deputy manager. We went subu diving in Figi, There was three of us on the boat, the other chap was a greece, I went in the water first and got into trouble and this guy saved my life. The incident was the talk of the ship. Would love to here from him.

Comments: On Saturday 14th Jan we are holding a party to celebrate our arrival in Australia some 40 years ago in 1966.I have fond memories of coming over on the Australis especially Xmas day as we were going up the Suez canal. Also my now wife was on the Australis and after some 28 years we found each other and got married. So as you can see the Australis was a special ship. DAVE

Comments: Couldn't believe my eyes when Google picked up your site. I have read and learnt more of the SS Australis (I was only 8 when I traveled) and I am so glad to see pictures of the famous 'lady'. I have so many wonderful memories, like going up to the bar near the pool and the bartender serving Sharon and Me these wonderful cocktail (albeit cordial we were only 8) for 3 pence, my dad used to leave a basket of change for us to use, and then there was the Equator, when King Neptune came aboard and threw a passenger overboard (I only learnt this year that they didn't really throw him overboard haha) There were fancy dress parties, movie nights and the onboard school what lovely memories I have of my journey, oh and then there's the great sites as well Crete, Egypt, Sues Canal, Africa, Fremantle, and then Melbourne. I shant bore you anymore just wanted to express how happy I am to have seen your site. This year marks 30 years since arriving in Australia. We still keep in contact with a few, but have lost touch with many (Frank, Marilyn and children and many more) It you are reading this and remember the Jepson's traveling drop us a line. andie99@hotmail.com

Comments: I spent four years on the Autralis, three a a single guy and one with my wife as husband & wife photo team. To me the Australis was home, the crew my family. Anita and I made many friends on board, from Captains to deck hands and have very fond memories of our life on board and will be ever greatful that this 'Australian Lady' introduced us to so many countries and nationalities and more than furthered our 'worldly education'. We left the 'lady' in December l8th l977, her last voyageon the Australian immegrant runs hoping that one day we would see her again as the great cruise liner that she once was. It is sad to know of her ending her life the way she did, only good to know that she has gone back to the sea that she once proudly reigned.......

Comments: Thanks for letting me talk on your site. So sad to see her rotting away I was so shocked. Brings back such great times I had on the ship.I am in my mid 50`s now and I still remember the ship so well. I also travelled on the Ellinis to come back from England. That was different altogether. Thanks again for your excellent site. I hope one day I might find someone I know on the voyage of 65.

Comments: I was cashier on Ellinis and Australis. Only did 1 trip on each ship but am distraught that I cannot find a single photo of myself on any of the websites we've visited. Doesn't anyone remember me? I remember Pam Prosser, Lynn Wright, Gerry Coulter, Sandra Todd, Katie H(?), Bill Livings, Keith shopboy, a printer from Midhurst (?), Kelvin photographer I think, Andy the slot, Andy Elliott, Eddie Ewbank, George Lilley (oh yes, I ended up marrying him), John Smith, Chris Preston, Charles Detrey. I remember a get together of crew members (Ellinis I think) in a hotel somewhere in Earls Court.
