Comments: Thanks so much for this site. I'm writing a book on All Nurses Post 122, (mostly WW II nurses)and one of those nurses was aboard the USS West Point going from San Francisco to Australia. She has been trying to find out what happened to the ship. I am so pleased with finding your great page. I not only found information for her, but learned a lot in the process. Thanks, Theodora "Teddie" Aggeles, RN

Comments: My first entry to the site lasted 2 hours of which was the most enjoyable time I have ever spent on the web and brought back many memories and made me very nostalgic. After reading about the eventual resting-place of the ss Australis, it made me very sad to hear what happened to her. I emigrated with a friend to Australia sailing on “The Lady” Voyage 25 southbound to Fremantle on 3 July 1970, and as we were some of the last ‘ten pounders’ it was the best £10 I have ever spent in my life and have ever since rejoiced that the Government was so generous to me! We had an outside upper deck cabin which we had to share with two other people, one English girl (where are you Rowena?)and a Dutch lady. After we had seen some of the cabins in the bowels of the ship, we felt very privileged to have been selected for this cabin. Our itinerary was - 3 July left Southampton, 4th arrived Bremerhaven, 8th arrived at Casablanca (sights of the Casbah), 9th arrived Las Palmas, (13th King Neptune Ceremony), 18th arrived Cape Town finally arriving at Fremantle on 28 July listening to Adrian at the piano in the bar sipping my 2/1d G & T - and we never did master Zorba’s Dance with the beautiful mover Michael.

Comments: My father's name was WEE YONG THYE. He was working at the British Nava Base in Singapore. Before the fall of Singapore, personnel at the Naval Base were evacuated onboard the USS West Point to Colombo and thence to Bombay around 1941/42. I am trying to locate the residences I stayed in in Colombo and Bombay. I was less than a year old then. If you can help provide information I will be grateful.

Comments: I was a passenger on the Australis Dec 67 and Nov 69 also on Ellinis 1968. I was 18 back then and am now xxxxxxx 53.It was nice looking back on memorabilia of those times. We had a great time on the two Australis trips, not so good on Ellinis. Does anyone know what happened to the musicians of that time?. They were called The Seniors from Athens, i guess they would be the Pensioners from Athens by now.!!! Great Site, thankyou.

Comments: Hello! At the age of 11 years, I sailed on the maiden voyage of the Australis!! I believe that we sailed in September of 1965. We boarded at Limassol, Cyprus to Australia via the Suez Canal, Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. I have several very clear memories of this ship, which sailed the entire voyage with NO air conditioning. We had Greeks, Turks, Arabs,Israelis, and several americans on board, and things were a bit, ahem tense..(sorry, but it was the truth). I have many more details that I would be happy to share...

Comments: my cousin and i travelled on the Australis about January 1977 to the pacific Islands. It was such a great time that will never be forgotten. I still have many photos and memoramobilia that i got from the ship. Sad to see it in such a decline for one so majestic in her day Trevor
