Comments: I travelled on this lovely ship on voyage no. 58 southbound to New Zealand - 1st March 1977. My cabin was 772 on 'A' deck. I had a great time and the food was really good (especially the special buffet days!!). My meals were taken in the Pacific restaurant. This was my first trip abroad so was really excited about seeing all the countries on route. I think one of the main highlights was going through the Suez canal. I took hundreds of slides of the voyage and the year I was in New Zealand. I still have lots of interesting menus, tickets and ship newspapers. I was fascinated to see such a large website of the Australis and it brought back good memories after such a long time. I was 14 at the time and what a memorable journey that was. It was on that trip that I met my first love. I have just met up with him again after 28 years and we reminisced about the great time we had on the ship. A journey I'll never forget. 165 Sun October 26 2003 - 02:34:33 Fullname: Stephen Dixon Email: svdixon@optushome.com.au Where are you from?: Sydney What Is Your Connection With The Australis?: Reference: Just Surfed On It! How good do you think this site is: Looks great! Comments: This is a wonderful yet sad sight. seing the Australis brought back may happy memories. I travelled from Southampton to ustralia in sep/oct 68 ( tho for years i thought it was 69 which may explain why I never got any response from fellow travellers) I was 16 at the time and had a ball, met a lovely girl called Rowena but lost contact. I would love to hear from anyone round my age who travelled on same voyage . Once again an EXCELLENT nostalgic site 166 Tue September 09 2003 - 21:18:59 Fullname: gary magee Email: gazmagee@yahoo.com Where are you from?: new zealand What Is Your Connection With The Australis?: Reference: Word of Mouth How good do you think this site is: Well done!!! How good do you think this site is: Well done!!! Comments: I travelled om the Australis in 1968 and arrived in Fremantle,WA the 5/8/1968. It was a really great trip and I am very sorry to see the fate of the dear old ship. We left from Southhampton in late June and was suppose to go through the Suez canal but as it was closed we went round Cape town after first picking up migrants for Australia from Joguslavia, Greece and Italy. I remember being told to keep to the one side of the ship as the other side was kept mainly for the greek migrants. Also we had to stay outside Cape Town for a long time as the weather was to bad for us to get in to the city. If anyone from that trip reads this letter then it could be fun to exchange a few words. Also if anyone have any papers from this trip I would dearly love to get a copy of them. 170 Mon July 28 2003 - 23:10:17 Fullname: Darrell Williamson Email: darrell@taxi.worldonline.co.uk Where are you from?: UK What Is Your Connection With The Australis?: Reference: NetSearch How good do you think this site is: Well done!!!
