Comments: My Husband Alan and I and our four children sailed from Southampton at the end of March 1976 arriving here in Fremantle on Anzac Day where we were kept out at sea in Gage Roads until the day after as the 25th was a holiday. We have been back only once in all those years and realised why we came out here.We have had a good life with no regrets and our children are all married now and we have eight grandchildren.

Comments: I went to England on Voyage 49 North that left Melbourne on May 7th 1975.. Even after all this time I still have vivid memories of the 5 or so weeks we had on board and I'm pleased to say that I keep in touch with a couple of people I met on board. It was a fantastic time to travel...I shudder to think how lax the security was in those days...I know of several stowaways..one went from Sydney to Acapulco!...several obviously had a few too many drinks when we left Melbourne and had to wait until we berthed in Sydney a couple of days later...try explaining that to your boss! Sad to see the wreck of the ship now...The Australis still brings back many great memories... John Lysaght Mornington

Comments: Ken, I’m a member of the band (bass player – The Standard). I sailed S.S. Australis from March 1977 – October 1977. I saw your recent update dated 22-03-04. I remember John McAleer’s family. His sisters Noeleen , Mary and brother Jim. John probably won’t remember me at all. I do have fond memories of friendships made with Noeleen and also Mary. I would like to get in touch with John or with his sisters. Ken, I will send you some of my photos as promise on my email. I left the majority of the photos back in Manila.

Comments: I was on Voyage 52 to Southampton 1976 in cabin 1249 an eight birth on D deck.I had a fantastic time that I will never forget. I was 21 at the time and have fond memories of the things we did and the people I met.One night I woke up to the sound of water and swithed on the light to see water coming through the vents in the door. There was 2 feet of water in our cabin and we quickly had our life jackets on and out the door to the stairs when our cabin boy stopped us.He took us down to the toilet block and there we saw eight toilets with a stream of water gushing 4 ft high from each, not at all reassuring.
