Commander (Air) was a gent called Lavender, who had a spectacular barrier in his Sea Fury when we were en route to Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup. We were guard ship in the Tasman during the London / Christchurch Air race and met a tasman gale when the old girl was piledriving fore and aft and shipping seas over the forward flight deck. great memories!
