I am not specifically writing shorter books these days...it's just that DESCENDANT was always intended to be a long novella, while THE PAINTED MAN is part of the Sissy Sawyer psychic series which have always been a little shorter. However you may notice that paper economy comes into it, too. There are more lines on every page than your average mass-market paperback, and if FIRE SPIRIT for example were to be published as a regular paperback it would come out at 300 pages plus. I have just finished DROUGHT which is well over 400 pages and I am working on SCARLET WIDOW which will be of similar length. I have been asked before if I would consider teaching writing online (and, strangely enough, by another South African!). You will find some "rules of writing" in the fiction section of my website, but regretfully I simply do not have the time at the moment to take it much further than that. I am helping one young lady to write her first novel but doing this properly is extremely time-consuming.
